We started early this morning doing our best to take advantage of the beautiful weather and the use of the equipment that we borrowed and rented for the weekend. We really could have used more hands, but those who did show up worked hard. The day began with a trip into the pond to pump out some of the standing water. Chip Ayres brought the excavator down and we dug two trenches roughly 5 feet deep. The first trench runs from the power pole in the pits to the concession stand 300'. The other runs from the pole to the old white tower 120'. We ran the power lines in these two locations today. This meant taking the power line and sheathing it in the black conduit that we removed from around the track last week. For the concession stand run John Kreckman, Jan Lynch, Jacob Lynch, Dennis Cummings, Irene Fink, Kaitlyn Fink, and I pulled the cable through the conduit which was a very physical task. Chip pulled the last bit through for us with the excavator and Jake came back just in time to put the last length of conduit on the end. We buried the power as well as warning tape.
John also worked up in the lift taking down old power lines so that we can get ready to remove the unneeded poles. Irene and Kaitlyn brought pizza for the crew and finished emptying the fridge. Chip, Jan, Jacob, Dennis and I moved the grease receptacle so that we had access to where the power comes into the building.
The second run to the tower was tackled by John, Jan, Jacob, Chip, Jake, Dennis and myself. The line was run and is buried. We worked past dark and we are all pretty beat. Thank you all for your hard work today.
Next week the weather does not look nearly as favorable, but we will be back at it again on Saturday at 10am. I hope to see you there.
